How do you get your first client?
I want to start my own marketing communications and strategy firm for small business. I have worked in small business for quite some time have my mba, but am not sure how to set pricing since I do not have a portfolio and only my work experience. Also I plan to work at my current place till this becomes profitable enough...How do I take calls and look legit? Any thoughts or ideas.

- I think you should get some friends to help you advertise because then that will have people know that you are starting a business and need support and clients
- I would spread the rumour (along with my bussiness card) around. Mouth to mouth, friend to friend, I think that's how everyone gets his first clients.
- Do you have any friends, or friends know someone who might need someone like you? My plan would be to first find someone like that and ask them what price they want. charge them a little lower. In return they have to recommend you to other people but they have to mention the higher price. I'm in the clothing business and this is how I started out.
By the way, can you tell me where you are located? I might need something like help from your business somewhere within the next two years.
