  3. The Bplans website (http://www.bplans.com/) is dedicated to sample business plans and business planning. There are over 60 free plans available here: http://www.bplans.com/sp/businessplans.c...

I would also contact your local SBDC office for free advice on business planning and starting a business. SBDCs are funded by the SBA and are an excellent resource. You can find your local SBDC here: http://www.bplans.com/sb/

Finally, I also suggest contacting your local SCORE office. SCORE is another SBA funded organization that provides free business coaching and will help you write your business plan. They also have many resources available to help you. You can find your local SCORE office and ask questions online here: http://www.score.org

    Good luck!
  4. Before you write a business plan write an Executive Summary of 1-3 pages. The summary should be written in the following order:

    - Business name, type (partnership, corp., etc.)
    - Business status (startup, purchased business)
    - Business activity (product or service)
    - Reason why market will want your product or service
    - Market opportunity
    - Barriers to entry created (patents, exclusives, first mover advantages.
    - Main competitors
    - Primary marketing strategy
    - Management team / expertise
    - Capital required
    - Funding details
    - Primary risks
    - Exit strategy (if any)

If you can't synthesize your idea into two pages, you probably aren't ready to write a business plan yet.
  5. I'd start with the SBA
    http://www.sba.gov/

They will have one of their consultants contact you. They can be very helpful.
